About Sky Earth (OCT. 21-27, 2018)
The first annual SkyEarth gathering, is modeled after a family of gatherings like Rabbitstick (started 1988), Winter Count (started 1995) and EarthKnack (started 1995) that strives to reconnect people with old ways of making fire, tanning hides, forming metal, weaving baskets, hunting, gathering and much much more.
2018 will mark the first SkyEarth gathering. Your hosts, Joshua Sage and Kirsten Szykitka, are the the host of Winter Count.
At the request of our friend Scott Ezzel to consider starting a gathering in Texas, it seemed like a good idea. The gathering will take place not far from the town of Venus, Texas, at Prairie Haven, the family land of Scott Ezzel. Scott has been a participant and on the work trade crew of Winter Count and Rabbistick for several years and felt that it had changed his life. It seemed clear to him that offering his land for the event could help change other peoples lives.
Scott has plans to reclaim the land in a way that will nurture some bad habits that the land has endured. He also raises cattle and has a permaculture specialist helping with this process.
Some of Scott’s family lives on the land we will be occupying and they are looking forward to proving a safe and abundant place for the gathering to happen with the idea that it can become a haven for other gatherings, classes and projects to take place.
As part of our agreement with them, we ask that you treat their family land with appreciation and respect. Below are some of the rules that, when followed, will allow for a week of growth and learning.
The SkyEarth gathering is a drug, alcohol and firearm free event.
